Flying into Monterey California must be how birds feel when they fly over the ocean. It’s breathtakingly lush, green and ocean inviting.  Being a non-local of Monterey California we took in every mi-nute detail as possible. Driving up to the curved driveway makes you feel like royalty getting dropped off (no seriously, it’s that grand).  The posts on the wall are remnant of old world style California.  I loved it and couldn’t wait to see more.

Our itinerary was packed full of everything there was to possibly take in while enjoying our stay at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Del Monte Golf Course.  Here’s a glance at what we had planned, Wine tasting, Lunch at a sports bar, Dinner over looking the ocean and spa treatments:

Friday Arrival

Wine tasting in McIntyre Tasting Room – you will want to schedule some time here. Just a short walk from check-in and it’s private and intimate. The excellent sommelier on staff gives a quick yet thorough description of the top 4 award-winning wines the vineyard makes.  The last which is not pictures was a sweet dessert wine.  Though Pinot Noir is what they are known for, they offer tastings from Friends of McIntyre, which make an excellent tannat that is full body and perfect anytime.  Be prepared to save around as they also offer in this quaint space, unique gift items by local artisans and quick pick up items you might need.

Dinner at TusCa Ristorante for two – situated in the back corner of the main lobby and overlooking the golf course and fire pit, this restaurant offers a casual comfortable experience. With the open air demonstration kitchen, you can’t help but wonder over to see what’s cooking.  TusCa Ristorante specializes in pasta, pizza and dishes baked in their wood-burning oven prepared fresh daily in our spectacular demonstration kitchen.  On the dinner menu for us was:  Castroville Artichoke Soup, Fried Calamari, Risotto Of The Day, Pancetta, Parmesan Crusted Filet Mignon, Baked Apple Tart. It’s not listed on their menu but the TusCa Ristorante starts you off with a warm toasty fresh bread load and roasted garlic. You can smell the warm garlic before it hits your table and it is good!

Saturday

Tour of Hyatt Regency property – Many hidden gems at this recently renovated 550 Renovated Guest-room Hotel.  Proven one of Monterey’s largest meeting spaces with 40,000 sq ft of Flexible Function Space, this should be on the “Bride to Be” check out list for upcoming functions.  One of tucked away little gems I stumbled on while headed to check out the pool area.  There is a life-size chess board with large play pieces, plus this property boasts two pools and one of the sweetest features I found was towards the rear.

Taking in a 50 minute Signature Accista Massage in the Couples Room was amazing. What made this unique for us was the two massage therapist were totally in sync with one another.  This is important because you and your partner will be comparing notes when it’s all said and done.  They asked us which areas needed the most attention.  We compared upon completion and loved that both of us felt we had our needs met.  True bliss and together at the same time.

Lunch at Knuckles Sports Bar

Adjacent to the TusCa Ristorante is the Knuckles Sports Bar.  They are widely known for their on tap table in the left corner.  Yes, we had to check it out and it’s worth it’s weight in gold.  If you’re a sports fan, this is where you’ll want to open on game day.  Open air flowing through, laughs and good food flowing all around.

Dinner at Pacific’s Edge at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands

Growing up a Southern California local I live for the ocean.  There’s nothing sweeter than a drive up/or down the coast towards sunset.  As we left Monterey and headed to Carmel, the scenic views will put you in the coastal mood. Cool sea air, windy roads and warm sun tickling your face.  You’ll want to head a bit early so that when you take in dinner at Pacific’s Edge ocean front restaurant, you’ll be to catch a glimpse of the setting sun while sipping on delicious wine.

Being a lover of shell fish, of course I inquired about crab.  Though it wasn’t offered on the menu, they had an appetizing alternative that I had never tried before.  Tasting the Monterey Bay Abalone was a treat.  Known for being a delicacy in certain parts of Latin America, the Monterey Bay Abalone was accompanied by fresh crisp vegetables and delicious.  We also tasted the Littleneck Clam Chowder and the Filet Mignon, both great choices for starters and main meal.

The Facts

Why you should stay: If you are planning an event, this property would be the place to have it.  Their new conference room update has boasted Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Del Monte Golf Course one of the best places for weddings. Also this property is located on Del Monte Golf, so if it’s ocean view you’re looking for they have another property for that, Hyatt Carmel.  The Hyatt brand to me is one with high standards and caters to their guests. If you don’t know this all you have to do is google them.

How Much is it?: Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Del Monte Golf Course is a moderately priced hotel.  The best time to stay at coastal hotels would be off season for price. But because this hotel is just off the ocean, late spring late fall could also work for your pocketbook.

  • You had me at two pools, life size chess board, couples massage, and that sunset! HOLY COW! This is my kind of getaway…tranquility at it’s best!

    • Thanks Kathy! The Chess board was cool. Didn’t get to take in the pools this time but for sure next time!

  • Brandy

I love the chess set. This is one feature I would have never known about this hotel. We are huge chess players and love the beach. So far, we are putting this on our list of summer stops with the family. Thanks for the great post.

    • That’s awesome Brandy! Looking forward to your take on it. Make sure to come back and leave your feedback.

  • Wowza! I seriously cannot get enough of your photography – those images showcase your getaway beautifully. I’m not sure I have ever stayed in a Hyatt, nor have I ever been to Monterey, but I will now. Is it far from Vegas? The husband and I always do the regular Southern Cali trips, but this new locale looks too heavenly to skip. Thanks so much for the honest review – I can’t wait to start researching!

    • You will be impressed when you do Vanessa. We have stayed at quite a few along the coast of California and am never disappointed. It’s a 6 hour drive and 1 hour flight via Allegiant Air. Needless to say we did air 😉

  • What a fantastic Get-a-way spot! You captured the property perfectly to intrigue my travel bug and want to hop on a plane! Defiantly will be on my future list of places to stay.

    • You will not be disappointed. If you’re doing the spa, they have done an excellent job at stocking everything you might need while visiting. It will be amazing.

  • Ana Lucia Novak

I am currently staying here as my husband attends a conference. The people who work here are professional, helpful and courteous- it feels like the Ritz! I love how peaceful it is, the views across the golf course. Enjoyed biking up to 17 mile drive route, gorgeous coastal views; drove to Carmel and was able to do so much within a few days. Being here fir 3 days felt like a week vacation! .

    • Love this Ana! Thanks for sharing your experience. I absolutely feel the same way.
